Panhandle Home Health Awards Scholarship - Nursing major at Shepherd University receives honorMartinsburg, West Virginia - Panhandle Home Health, a local home health care agency, is pleased to announce that Holly Snyder, a senior in the Nursing program at Shepherd University, has received one of three scholarships they awarded this semester. "These awards were designed for nursing students after successful completion of their first semester in the nursing program," stated Lisa Bivens, RN, Administrator for Panhandle Home Health. "We hope to continue awarding similar scholarships to more hard working students in the future." Originally from Hagerstown, Maryland, Holly Snyder became interested in nursing during her sophomore year of high school when her grandfather became ill. "I watched the nurses and doctors while they worked," stated Snyder. "The care they provide my grandfather and the support they provided our family made a huge impact on our lives." After high school, she spent four years candy striping at Washington County Hospital to ensure this was the field she wanted to study. "I began working as a Nursing Assistant in Labor and Delivery at Washington County Hospital shortly before starting the Nursing program at Shepherd," stated Snyder. Snyder will graduate in December 2007 with her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) and plans to become a traveling nurse. Through her performance in the program at Shepherd, Snyder has received numerous scholarships. "I'm the first one on my mom's side of the family to go to college, so this is a big deal," Snyder stated. "I was really excited when Panhandle Home Health awarded this scholarship. It's going to make a big difference in my life." Panhandle Home Health provides premium in-home health services to residents of Jefferson, Berkeley, and Morgan Counties.
